About

Brewing culture is one of openness, sharing, and collaboration. Brewed Up Apologetics intends to create that type of environment. The search for truth is much like the search for your favorite brew: filled with responsibly indulging and immersing yourself in it. The search for truth brings a diverse range of collaborative opportunities, whether that be religion or no religion. Brewed Up Apologetics seeks to invite all to dialogue regardless of religion or lack thereof. Here at Brewed Up Apologetics, we operate on a Christian worldview. We find this to be the best and most corresponding to reality and will make it our goal to spell that out with full transparency.

The Origin Story

Like all ministries it begins with a call. Usually this call is not something that is impressed on our hearts right away. Tyler had a burden and love for apologetics and also loved the craft beer community of which he had become a part. The desire for bringing the two together was something that God laid on his heart but he did not know how to go about it. It was not until his first residency at Biola for the Master’s program he was a part of that the idea for the blog was formed. J. Warner Wallace, author of Gods Crime Scene and Person of Interest, was one of his professors and he gave a lecture on what he called “your unicorn.” After some thought about what was unique about his interests and pursuit of apologetics, the combination of the craft brewing cultures and apologetics was combined.

Every Christian is more than willing to meet at the local coffee ship. Very few however are willing to meet at a brewery. Tyler wanted to responsibly change this. Because the Bible is not black or white on the topic, there is no reason a Christian cannot combine the two despite the stigma surrounding alcohol in American culture. Though there are prohibitions regarding reaching the natural effects of the substance, there are places in the Bible where alcohol is readily consumed or even encouraged. Martin Luther and many other monks consumed the beer brewed beer in their monastaries regularly. Many of these “trapist” breweries are still functioning and are revered as amongst the best in the world.

With this biblical truth in mind, Brewed Up Apologetics was born. After the spark from J. Warner Wallace Tyler began posting his papers that he wrote for his Master’s program as a kick starter (a recommendation from Wallace) and time buffer while he worked on other blogs.

It did not stop with the blog. When COVID ransacked the world, Tyler was into full-time ministry earlier than expected. There was now a chance to expand Brewed Up Apologetics beyond a blog and enter into the Podcast world. The podcast is aired on the local public radio station and has been featured on Apologics316’s site.

The future is bright and the hope is to continue to glorify God through the blog and podcast and anything else God places in our heart.

About Tyler

Tyler’s passion for apologetics formally began in college when his campus minister, Pat, introduced him to the late Ravi Zacharias. With this introduction, he recognized God’s call to bring apologetics to the colleges of his home area (Williamsport, PA) where no formal apologetics ministry has been established. To do so, Tyler obtained a Master’s of Arts in Christian Apologetics from Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology. Just before finishing his degree, he partnered with Ratio Christi, a college ministry dedicated to using apologetics to reclaim an intellectual Christian voice on campus. He serves as the Area Director for Pennsylvania and the Chapter Director for Lycoming College and is the acting Chapter Director for Grove College.

When he is not doing ministry related things, he is fills his time playing music in his band Prarie Dogma, watching movies, working with leather, enjoying time with family, and trying new beers at one of the many local breweries.

Tyler lives in Williamsport, PA with his wife, Taylor and daughter, Arwen.
